St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805-18711)
St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805-1871) was an educational pioneer and a social reformer in South India, who attended the village school where he studied language and elementary sciences in his childhood. He entered the seminary in 1828 and was ordained a priest in 1829. St. Chavara founded the Congregation of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) in 1831 with a vision to serve the marginalized and underprivileged. Inspired by Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, Lisieux College of Education strives to transform and develop individuals to the perfection of humanism and spiritual knowledge of the ultimate Guru, God. Participating in the enlightening act of the Guru, which is the elimination of darkness, Lisieux College of Education imparts education to liberate light (wisdom)-seekers from mere shadows of reality to the real vision of the truth, which becomes possible only through the process
leading to life. This vision, when attained, becomes the motivating force within oneself to lead others who need light to life, that is, existence. Thus, Lisieux College of Education motivates its light or wisdom-seekers (teacher-trainees) to live responsibly with wisdom gifted by God, who created wisdom (universe) in vasudhaiva kutumbakam (the family of God) or in a fraternal society.
